Information
/ Tips which you may find useful in managing you or your child's eczema
-
Surcare washing powder
recommended by the Eczema Society in the Uk, the best alternative on the
market for people suffering from skin conditions.
-
Diet - foods like apples, pears,
tomatoes, carrots, any food which contains pectin, may possibly make the
person itch more, you need to experiment with this yourself.
-
Try to control the temperature as much as possible, if the child gets
too hot or too cold, the eczema usually flares up more.
-
Highly recommend that you purchase a mattress
cover from the soundersleep company, their web address is www.soundersleep.co.uk
they are quite expensive, however they are invaluable, as children sleeping
in their cot for the entire night, without constantly itching. They make
the only 100% organic cotton, dust mite proof, mattress covers that are
available on the market, very worthwhile investment.
-
Try to purchase some organic cotton
clothes, particularly for night wear. Most clothes for kids are
treated with chemicals so that they are flame retardant, particularly
night wear. Try www.eczemaclothing.co.uk
(specializes in clothes for kids with skin conditions).
-
Only use clothes that are 100% cotton
and can be washed at 60 degrees. This is the washing temperature necessary
to kill house dust mites.
-
Use a product such as silcocks base, or
aqueous cream to wash the child, available from the chemist, very
inexpensive. Don't use soaps or shampoos for the hair, use small amount of
Aloe Soap or use silcocks base.
-
Highly recommend Dr. John McKenna, in
Naas, Co. Kildare, long delays in appointments, 045-898243. He treats
children with homeopathic remedies. He suspects that they have reacted to
the whopping cough vaccine, which turned out to be correct. Once they
complete the treatment the eczema don't flare up again. You can buy the
book, Natural Alternatives to Anti-biotics at most book shops, it's an
excellent book for any parent, and will give you an idea of the work he
does.
-
Highly recommend drinking Aloe
Vera Gel, Aloe
Berry Nectar or Bits
N Peaches. Also using Aloe
Propolis Cream, amazing results with this product can be
observed over a 6 week period. Recommend applying to the skin every
hour if necessary to start off with and then reduce the number of
applications as you see the skin improving.
-
The water for the bath must be a
warm, not hot. Buy packet of porridge, fill a sock with the porridge and
put it onto the hot tap of the bath, then run the bath water through the
sock, it makes a lovely milky bath, excellent for the skin and softens the
water. (Also eating porridge excellent for the skin).
-
When drying the skin after a bath,
don't rub, just pat the skin dry.
-
Apply moisturiser (Propolis
Cream) within 3 minutes of getting out of the bath, research
shows that the skin absorbs more moisture during these first couple of
minutes.
-
If skin is very raw the Propolis
Cream may sting, in this case, first apply a layer of silcocks
base and then apply the Propolis over it, the Aloe will penetrate through
to the skin.
-
Try not to have too many soft toys
around, as they hold onto a lot of house dust mites. If child has one or
two favourites, put them in the fridge freezer for 12 hours (overnight)
this will kill the dust mites.
